From Dominik Moll, the award-winning French director of The Night of the 12th, comes his latest police procedural, described as “a piercing slow-burn examination of police brutality” (The Hollywood Reporter). Starring the “marvelous” (Screen Daily) Léa Drucker in her César-winning Best Actress role, Case 137 is a timely and socially resonant examination of institutional violence, raising difficult questions about corruption and accountability within the criminal justice system.

What is Case 137 about?

In the aftermath of the 2018 Yellow Vest protests in Paris, internal affairs officer Stéphanie Bertrand is tasked with investigating the conduct of fellow police officers during the demonstrations. Determined to remain objective, she soon finds herself at odds with the rest of the police force. When she investigates the near-fatal assault of a teenage protester from her hometown, Stéphanie faces mounting institutional pressure to drop the case and move on. As her investigation deepens, her faith in the system she serves is increasingly put to the test.

Variety praises the film in its review: “Dominik Moll’s riveting police procedural places good cop and bad cop on Opposite Sides. Intelligent, drily seething and duly enraging in turn, “Case 137” keeps its mind strictly on the job”.
The publication adds: “Léa Drucker is superb as a dogged inspector investigating an egregious case of riot police misconduct in this starkly effective Cannes competition entry.”
